South Carolina Rut Timing

SCDNR-based breeding guidance for field planning. Rut timing varies geographically and does not follow Game Zone boundaries precisely.

Rut Timing

PRIMARY BREEDING WINDOW — Oct. 6–Nov. 16Historic SCDNR reproductive data shows about 83% of South Carolina does breed during this period.
TYPICAL PEAK — Last 2 weeks of Oct. through first 2 weeks of Nov.SCDNR identifies this as the general statewide peak. Local peak dates can differ.
LOCAL TIMING MATTERSUse SCDNR's Peak Breeding Dates map for geographic context rather than treating Game Zone boundaries as biological rut boundaries.

SCDNR Reference

Important: These are breeding-data planning ranges, not hunting-season dates or guarantees of deer movement. SCDNR says breeding can occur outside the peak and varies geographically.

Restricted Buck Tag Standard

STATEWIDE RESTRICTED TAG
4 POINTS OR 12"
Minimum 4 points on one antler OR minimum 12-inch inside spread.
Important: this is a tag restriction, not a blanket county-wide minimum for every buck on private land. Unrestricted antlered buck tags do not carry this size standard.

How HuntCheck interprets it

Private LandNo general county-specific antler-size minimum is loaded. The restricted-buck-tag standard applies when that restricted tag is used.
Other / Unnamed WMAStatewide WMA buck limits apply unless otherwise specified. Property-specific antler rules can override.
Named WMASome named WMAs are Quality Deer Management areas with their own antler restrictions. HuntCheck will require property-specific verification before declaring a buck legal.

About HuntCheck

HuntCheck turns fragmented season information into a simple decision: what are you hunting, where are you hunting, and is the applicable season open?
Data model: rules are separated from the interface so annual seasons can be updated without redesigning the app.
Safety lock: if an annual migratory or named-WMA rule has not been verified, the app displays VERIFY CURRENT RULE instead of inventing an answer.
